The pruning saw is used for all pruning where there are slightly coarser branches. It is not possible to say a maximum thickness. You may prefer to skip to your hacksaw when it comes to really thick branches / trunks. A branch saw gives a nice cut surface on the branches, which means that it heals quickly. It is perfect to have a pruning saw on hand where it is a little difficult to access with the large pruning shears. Inside a tangled bush tex.
