Lyocell is a relatively new concept for many. Lyocell is made from 100% cellulose, which means it is produced from a type of wood pulp. In the process, only biodegradable chemicals are used to break down the cellulose into a type of pulp from which the fibers are extracted. Once these fibers are dried and washed, they are woven into fabric. The chemical process is closed, meaning that 99% of the chemicals are reused. The remaining percentage of chemicals is sent to biological treatment plants where they are broken down. Another environmental advantage is that the manufacturing process requires less water than the production of, for example, cotton, as well as less dye than the production of other cellulose fibers. The type of wood used does not matter much; Lyocell is 100% biodegradable. In addition to the positive environmental effects, lyocell is a durable textile material of very high quality thanks to the long fibers. The material is naturally antibacterial and absorbs moisture quickly. It provides a cool and pleasant feel against the skin and does not wrinkle easily.
