With a strong belief in the power of a smile, Gustav Ehrenreich created his happy Hoptimist movement in the late 1960s. The goal was to create a figure that served as an eternal reminder to remain positive and optimistic. Even though the 1960s are often called "The Happy Sixties," it was a decade marked by unrest. Therefore, Ehrenreich’s design was a welcome bringer of joy in an otherwise turbulent time. Bimble and Bumble are the first Hoptimists the designer created: A girl in a dress with smiling eyes, and a boy with an attentive look and a small stick on his head.
